The NSW Education Act (1990) and the Catholic Schools Office Lismore require parents/carers to ensure that children of compulsory age attend School on each day that the School is open for instruction. If children are absent from School, Parents/Carers are required to provide the school with an acceptable explanation, in writing, within seven days of the absence.
Late Arrivals
Anyone arriving late must report to the King Street Office with their parent/carer to be signed in. A late slip will be issued to the child to take to their teacher. School requires accountability and an iPad to accommodate the sign-in process is used.
Early Departure
Parents/Carers can sign their child(ren) out at the King Street office. School requires accountability and an iPad to accommodate the sign-out process is used.
Absence from School & Extended Leave
Parents/carers are sent a text message if their child(ren) is absent from School once the roll call is marked. Please reply to this message, as this provides the School with an official acknowledgement of the absence.
Parents/carers must inform the School when your child(ren) is unable to attend.
Feeling Unwell
If students feel unwell at School, they must inform their teacher. The teacher will make an initial assessment prior to sending the student to the Office. If students feel unwell during Lunch breaks, they must talk to the teacher on duty. The Office conducts all phone calls regarding sick children.
Unable to Participate in Sport
A written note of explanation from a parent/guardian or a medical certificate should be given to the Office.
Restricted Items at School
The use of mobile phones or phone watches are not permitted at St Joseph's. The School will not take responsibility for phones brought to School. Any communication to the students is required to be made through the school Office on 6585 1745. If a child requires a phone for communication after school the child must store their device at the school Office for safe keeping and claim at the end of the day.
Security of Ownership
All articles of clothing, bags, books, stationery items, calculators and additional items must be clearly marked with the student's name. Valuable school time should not be wasted looking for lost or otherwise missing items.
Students should not bring to school, more money than is needed for the day and must accept responsibility for its use and whereabouts. If for some exceptional reason, a larger sum than usual is brought and needed for after school, it must be lodged at the school Office for safekeeping and claimed at the end of the day.
Lost Property
The Lost Property basket is located under the COLA. Please clearly label all items.
Messages for Students
If you have a message for your son/daughter, please let the Office know as early as possible so your child can be informed. Generally, children are informed prior to the last bell. In case of emergencies, there will be exceptions to this rule; however, a paramount aim of the School is to safeguard the students' instruction time as much as possible.
Change of Address/Family Circumstances
Parents are asked to promptly notify the School of any change of address, phone number, email address or place of employment. When parents arrange for students to stay with relatives or friends while they themselves are away from home for a period of time, the Office must be informed in writing. We need particulars relating to the name, address and phone number of relatives/friends and the duration of the student's stay.
Similarly, any change in family status, such as a separation, grief or loss, must be notified to the chool. This is not only for administrative purposes but also so the school can work for the pastoral welfare of the child(ren).
School Visitors
It is a legal requirement that all visitors to our school premises must sign in at the front Office. This ensures our students' safety and welfare and complies with child protection legislation.
Canteen, classroom, volunteers, visitors, parents and carers attending School assemblies or special celebrations are also required to sign in.
